Having been thwarted in my attempts to reach this year’s meeting on the Bank Holiday Monday by a minor domestic crisis & three different transport fails, I have no new photo’s. to display.
So I will pick a favourite from each of the four preceding years to make up for it. & look forward hopefully to next year, which if the proposed development goes ahead as it stands, may be the last if the exclusivity zone demanded by the developers is allowed. Whatever one’s views about the site of the old Crystal Palace the extent of the exclusivity zone is not acceptable.
Usually held on the Spring Bank Holiday Sunday & Monday this year was held on the last weekend in May (Saturday & Sunday) to avoid clashing with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Possibly the hottest 2 days of the year…..not a cloud in the sky in this view of the approach to the track from the terrace area which once formed part of the Crystal Palace itself.
The track is about 0.5 miles & uses part of the the pre-war inner link, starting to the South of the concert bowl & joining the main track via a hair-pin & finishing in the elevated section to the North of the bowl. The red(ish) line below gives a rough line followed.
The warm weather improved times over previous years & 33 secs was a good time for the day.
There was good variety of machinery from a 1950 Doctor’s car running in production saloons….
To full blown Le Mans replicas…..
