The sacking of Sven-Goran Eriksson by Leicester City is indicative of the must win attitude of football club owners currently undermining the game. The club’s Thai owners stated that promotion was a requirement for the current season, but the season is not yet halfway through & Leicester are not badly placed in tenth only half a dozen points away from an automatic promotion place. A recent defeat brought to an end an unbeaten run of 6 or 7 games. In short it’s a premature overreaction by overly ambitious owners with little understanding of the game & a shabby way to treat someone of Eriksson’s standing, even though his heyday as a top level manager is probably behind him now.
One could be spiteful & hope that LCFC might fail. There’s no real need. There will probably be no shortage of candidates for the job…..there must be a goodly number of out of work football “managers”…..but attracting the right man may now be difficult. This bout of foot-shooting may be something they come to regret but time will tell.
